Our story
More than a bookstore.
Spellbinder Books began in 1970 with a belief that a local bookstore could be much more than a retail store. It could be a dependable part of community life—a place where readers are welcomed, recommendations are personal, and books make their way from the shelf into the hands of the people who need them.
1970
A local bookstore begins
Spellbinder Books opens its doors in Bishop with an independent-bookstore spirit rooted in the Eastern Sierra.
2000
A new chapter begins
Lynne Almeida purchases the bookstore after working as a buyer at the Stanford University Bookstore.
